Noemí Rodrigo Sabio is a visual artist and photographer working with image, text and sound on environmental issues.
Her practice explores human intervention in the landscape and nature, combining research-based methods with experimental and alternative processes in both analogue and digital. She adapts the techniques to the subjects, creating a relationship between the stories and their form. In this process, she applies collaborative methods, archive photography, and various techniques such as mixed formats, image intervention, and collected materials. By doing so, she aims to explore the photographic medium while unveiling environmental stories and advocating for the environment.
“I grew up next to several environmental injustices of human abuse such as over construction on the coast, rivers' diversion, and desertification. I started then to forge my conviction about the environment’s protection. I understand that we live in a world where everything is connected, so relationships and behaviours between beings and the medium should not cross each other's lines.”
Noemi’s projects are produced across platforms such as books, fanzines, pamphlets, actions, web docs, installations and exhibitions. She has exhibited both locally and internationally, and her work is held in the collections of the University of the Arts London and the Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Ciencias Ambientales de Aragón. Her photographs have appeared in Photograd, Click Magazine, Salvaje Magazine, La Vanguardia and elDiario.es, among others, and have received fellowships from Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles and Dirección General de Aragón. In 2021 she self-published the dummy ‘Montes Negros’ Eden’.
She obtained with distinction the master's degree in Photography at the University of the Arts London, and has had the privilege of being mentored by Lore Stessel, Aletheia Casey, Paul Lowe, and Lewis Bush, among others.
