Lüke Recktenwald, Germany

Climate Change feels like an uncertain future.

Dear Chancellor Angela Merkel,

My name is Lüke Recktenwald, I am 18 years old and live in the fourth generation on Langeoog. We are already confronted with the impacts of climate change, and I am worried about my future. I would like to have the possibility to live and work on the island like my parents did, but that is not possible if the dunes won’t stand the storms, our drinking water is salinated and as a result we have to close our family business. In December, together with the heads of state of the EU, you will negotiate a new climate target 2030. The next years are crucial! I would like to ask you from the bottom of my heart to step up for the young generations. The only right way is to set ambitious climate targets and to implement them together with us.

Yours sincerely,
— Lüke Recktenwald

Climate Change feels like strong storm tides shaking the island.

Climate Change smells bitter and salty.
